| Small Ruby Red Carbon Lightbulb |
This is a small, tipless carbon filament bulb, with a deep Ruby Red-colored envelope. This bulb is quite heavy for its size, because its glass is far too thick. This bulb may have been used in a darkroom lamp, for developing film. The filament in the picture of it lit looks very purplish/pink, but in reality it looks Red. Please look at the picture on the little "Related Links" table below for a much better picture. I am not sure if this bulb belongs in the vintage lightbulb gallery since I do not know when it was made. I suspect that this bulb may be an early attempt at creating a tipless bulb, for several reasons: The lead-in wires seem to be made of platinum (as far as I can see; It's real hard to see the internals, even against the sun!), and because I don't see an exhaust port inside the stem. I would need to destroy the bulb to make sure it's a genuine "early tipless" bulb (made in 1906-1910), which I won't do of course! Meanwhile, it will remain in the vintage gallery since tipless bulbs went mainstream in 1922. Fellow bulb collectors, I need your advice on this one!
